Gary Plotkin is a composer/lyricist and librettist currently working on an original musical called THE TEXAS TANGO, a rom com that takes place in Nashville, 1989.

Previously, he has written book, music, and lyrics for a musical based on Roald Dahl's THE BFG. He also co-wrote book and wrote the music for a musical based on THE FRONT, a rom com that occurs during the Joseph McCarthy “witch hunts” in Manhattan. Several years earlier, he worked on a musical based on the 1981 rom com feature film ARTHUR. He has also written a musical based on Huckleberry Finn called JOSE & ME. In addition, Gary has written two musical revues, LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, and an all-interactive revue for young children, THE YOU DO IT TOO REVUE. YOU DO IT has been performed at numerous libraries, preschools, and community centers in New York and New Jersey.

He has also written scores for two productions at the Herbert Mark Newman Theater (Westchester, NY), CROSSING LINES, a group of one-acts, and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM.

In the film arena, Gary wrote songs for feature films FUNNY ABOUT LOVE and PARADISE. He also wrote the score for the independent short film, TOM’S SECRET GARDEN.

As a student in the New School Musical Theater Program, Gary received the Hank Bedard-New School Scholarship for Musical Theater for 8 years. He has also received the ASCAP Popular Award for 17 years.
