Nashville, 1989. Amidst a country music renaissance and decaying good ole boys network, two young songwriters, Jack and Jillita, meet at a bar where Jack’s band is playing and, serendipitously, write a song and dance. The crowd goes wild for it. A has-been producer, Chip, happens to be there and signs them to an album deal and tour. Jack and Jillita are wildly attracted to each other but soon find they get along like a fork and a power outlet. Jack is sexist, Jillita, feminist. Meanwhile, Jack’s long-time friend and bass player, Billy, a hard-drinking bubba, turns religious to stay in the good graces of the love of his life, Mary, a former stripper, now born-again Christian. When Jillita gets pregnant, her and Jack’s romance disintegrates, as does their music act. But wait, there’s more.
